Operation is simple: 1) Place sample on the prism; 2) Press the START button -- within 2 seconds, the reading is displayed on the large LQ 3) Wipe off prism with tissue and water (if necessary) -- the unit is then ready for the next sample. The ATAGO Model ES-421 Digital Salt-Meter is operated like the other Palette models, but it employs conductivity via the electrode fitted in the funnel-shaped sensor. The ES-421 is essentially free from the damage required with salt-meters using glass electrodes. Measurement by conductivity allows the ES-421 to give extremely accurate salinity readings even on solutions with many other solids.
